Self built fences

Are you a follower or a leader?  Do you wait to see what 'everybody else' is doing and then act accordingly, or do you have enough faith in your OWN plan/idea and the courage and self-esteem to see it through to the end?  Does the phrase "What would they think?" run through your mind, or is it more like "Who the hell is THEY anyways?".  What is the most unbridled thing you have ever done?  Did you say "Whatever happens, happens", or did you have a safety net all along?  If you woke up tomorrow on a street corner in Lithuania, penniless, what would you do that day?  When you say "I can't" is it really "I won't"?  Self-built fences can, and should, be tore down.

Youth

Something very interesting about youth.  Whether you are male or female, while you are young (20s & younger), you might know your boyfriend/girlfriend is hot, but you don't REALLY get it.  You never appreciate the beauty of youth until you yourself are no longer young.

For example, my (step)son Adam has had girlfriends who are drop dead gorgeous- model material.  Beautiful!!  And as smart and wise beyond his years that he is, I don't think he realizes what he has had/does have totally.

Now when you are a 40yr. old man, you see- and reminisce- the outward beauty of youth.  The same goes for women.  Only in the past few years do I see the incredible outward beauty of youth.  I'm not a cougar- I am very happily married & wouldn't change a thing.  Luckily David & I have a strong enough relationship that he can comment or point out a beautiful female, or I can comment & point out a beautiful guy, & there is no jealousy.  We both know that no matter what, I am #1 always & forever in his eyes, & he is #1 always & forever in my eyes.  Period.  He knows good & well of my John Frusciante crush (the young & older versions of the Frush), & I know of his Taylor Swift crush.  No biggie. 

There are other types of beauty far more important- a beautiful personality, a beautiful love, a beautiful gesture.  But the outward beauty of youth cannot be dismissed.  It is there, it is real, & sadly most times we don't realize the enormity of it until we are too old.

David got lucky.  He snagged me at 22 when he was 38!  I never realized I was pretty at 22 until much later.  But he saw it. 

I actually feel kinda creepy looking at a younger person & noticing this.  But why should I?  I don't plan on acting on it, AND it has been perfectly acceptable for men to think/feel this way forever.
